The oldest wine label used at Schloss Johannisberg dates back to the 1822 vintage. It is a simple wood engraving, featuring only little text, while highlighting the castle, the vineyard and the river Rhine. This theme has been retained over the past 200 years. |

According to the respective spirit of the times, variations of the original label were produced, as they are documented, such as for the 1884 vintage or, roughly 100 years later, for the 1969 vintage, featuring a "modernized" version of the original design. |

At the beginning of the 1980´s, when there was a strong tendency almost exclusively toward dry wines, the original design of the label was adjusted to this new trend in taste by way of a new, rather prosaic colouring. |

Since then, twenty years have been passed, in which particularly the Riesling has experienced a renaissance. Classical Riesling wines are now in demand worldwide. Riesling wines from the most prestigious domains and especially those of the 900-year old Schloss Johannisberg enjoy an increasing global demand. |

In accordance with the revival of the classical Riesling wines, as of the 2000 vintage, the wines of Schloss Johannisberg, come with a unique and characteristic label showing the landscape and the castle, hereby paying tribute to its historical tradition of pictorial labels. |
