Schloss
Johannisberg estate is located at the 50th degree latitude, which is the
most northern border for growing vines. Despite the northern location,
the vineyards experience a very mild climate due to the southern exposure
and the humidity provided by the Rhine.
Figs, almonds, lemons and chestnuts also thrive under these perfect conditions.
The 35ha (about 80 acres) of vines, which surround the palace, grow on great soil consisting of a quartz underground (Taunusquarzit) and loam-loess topsoil.
